民主文化的多元性与承认的政治——查尔斯·泰勒基于文化现代性理论的论说

政治哲学家查尔斯·泰勒认为,现代西方社会存在两种现代性理论,即文化的现代性与非文化的现代性理论。前者将西方社会的现代性视为西方文化变化发展的独特产物,后者将西方社会的现代性视为所有文化变迁的必然归宿。基于文化现代性理论,泰勒主张民主文化的多元性,认为现实世界不存在单一的、稳固的、标准的民主文化,存在的是多元的民主文化,而多元民主文化之间的和平共在以彼此之间的承认和尊重为前提。
Charles Taylor argues that there are two kinds of theories of modernity, the cultural and the acultural. The former regards modernity in the modern west as the unique outcome of western culture's development. The latter regards it as the inevitable end of all cultures' developments. In the light of the acultural theory of modernity, Taylor insists on the plurality of democratic cultures, and believes that there are plural democratic cultures in the modern world, not some single,stable and standard democratic culture of democracy. As a prerequisite, their coexistence requires their mutual recognition and respect.
