摘要
以中国著名戏剧典籍《牡丹亭》的白之译本和汪榕培译本的前二十章节的译文为研究对象,通过运用"传神达意"理论,分别从"字词达意""比喻达意""形似""神似"四个方面进行对比研究。白氏《牡丹亭》译本和汪氏《牡丹亭》译本均属优秀译本,且各有特色。但是相比而言,汪译本比白译本更适合于典籍英译对中国文化的对外传播与交流。
Taking a translation of first twenty chapters of two English versions Peony Pavilion, a Chinese famous classic works of drama, as the research object and by using "vivid and faithful" theory, this paper launches a comparative study from four aspects including the word expresses, the metaphor expresses, similarity in form and in spirit. Both Cyril Birch's version and Wang Rongpei's version are excellent and have their own characteristics. By contrast, however, Wang's is more suitable than Birch's for Chinese culture international spread and exchange through English translation of Chinese classics.
