As the first constructed pumped-storage power plant of China, Guangzhou Pumped-storage Power Plant has been operating for over 20 years. The SFC(Static frequency converter)system has several problems such as original type of SFC out of production, lack of spare parts and exhaustion of SFC life. Modification must be executed because of the turbine mode has been influenced seriously by low reliability of SFC system. In this article, the difference between entire and partial modification, comparison of SFC voltage level and feasibility of dry transformer application has been discussed and analyzed. Besides that, three-dimensional design software Microstation has been utilized which could reduce the construction difficulty. The analysis of the entire project and equipment comparison could provide significant experience for the pumped-storage power plant which under construction and other similar modification projects.
