摘要
文章旨在从图里的翻译规范理论视角,分析西里尔·白之英译王夫之词作过程中的翻译规范。图里提出的翻译规范理论包括预备规范、初始规范和操作规范。白之选择《玉楼春·白莲》作为翻译文本,受到当时政治局势、文本创作时期和文本内容的影响;考虑到目标读者和翻译目的等因素,译文以目的语为中心;在实际翻译中,白之不刻意用韵,多用修辞手法弥补汉语特色的缺失,保留意象,再现原诗韵味。
This paper is designed to discuss Cyril Birch's translation norms embodied in the translating of White Lotus composed by Wang Fu-chih from the perspective of Toury's translation norms theory, a combination of three components including preliminary norms, initial norms and operational norms. It is found that Birch's identification of White Lotus as his translation material has much to do with the political situation at that moment as wells as the period of work composition and contents revealed in the text; taking such factors as target readers and skopos into consideration, Birch presents a version oriented towards target language; in the actual translating process of this poem, what he seeks is to offset the losses of devices typical of Chinese with the aid of rhetoric techniques and retain the original flavor by means of keeping images in place rather than sticking to the rigid composition of rhymes.
