中世纪德国环境灾害问题研究

摘要
作为当今生态文明大国,日耳曼民族的生态文化研究不能被忽视,而这其中的德国环境史研究更构成了德国生态文化研究的核心。与英国、法国环境史研究一样,德国环境史研究的重点为工业环境史,或者叫工业污染史。要搞清这种工业污染的来龙去脉,就离不开对此之前各历史阶段环境史的研究,其中的中世纪环境史就深刻地揭示了千年漫长历史时期日耳曼人在其社会形态、思想意识、文化发展和生产技术影响下所形成的特有的人与自然环境的相互作用关系。笔者拟从中世纪德国最具代表性的环境要素变化如阿尔卑斯山地区极端气候变化、北海风暴潮灾害、森林砍伐、暴雨洪灾以及瘟疫流行五个方面出发,结合中世纪历史研究中常用的考古分析法和历史文献分析法等进行实证研究,来重构这一历史时期的自然生态系统,揭示日耳曼民族如何在社会—经济—自然这个复合生态系统内求得自身的生存、进化和发展,从而为欧洲中世纪环境史研究增添新的内容。值得注意的是,尽管当时的人们已认识了解自然,能趋利避害,但他们认识自然的能力还是很有限的,因为他们既缺少理性,也没有很好的科学知识指导自己的生产斗争实践,他们所知道的也只是听命于上帝所创造的这个世界,将自己视为上帝之子,并以上帝意愿和宗教信仰来征服和奴役这个世界,让自然臣服在自己面前。在生态文明建设的今天,这种思想自然要被摒弃,但无论如何,中世纪德国环境史研究还是为环境史学呈现出一道亮丽的文化风景线,也为人类留下了一笔丰富的文化遗产。
The ecological studies of the Germanic people, a current major power of eco-civilization, cannot be neglected, among which studies of German environment history constitute the core of German ecological culture research. It is well known that, like Britain and French environmental history studies, the study of German environmental history focuses on the history of industrial environment, or the history of industrial pollution, including the study of environmental history in former periods. Especially, the environment history in the Middle Ages discloses the unique interrelations between man and nature under the influence of social formations, ideologies,culture and production technology. With archaeological and historical document analyses, the paper analyzes the most representative changes of environmental elements in German in the Middle Ages such as the extreme climate changes in the Alps, the storm surge disasters in the North Sea, deforestations, flooding disasters and epidemic plagues to restructure the natural ecological system in that period. The study reveals how the Germanic people pursued survival, evolution and development in that complex social-economic-natural ecological system, aiming at enriching the study on European environmental history in the Middle Ages. It should be noted that although people had some knowledge about nature and could avoid harm through knowing more about nature, they took themselves as God's subordinates, conquering and enslaving the world with God's will and religious belief because of the lack in rationality and viable scientific knowledge to guide them. In today's ecological civilization, those thoughts should be abandoned. The study of German environmental history in the Middle Ages has promoted overall advances of environmental history, and added rich cultural heritage to human beings.
