“四个自信”背景下“大同”理念在多模态语篇中的英译探析——以《大国外交》英译版为例

摘要

从多模态话语分析框架中的文化、语境、内容及表达层面探析《大国外交》英译版对"大同"理念的呈现情况,指出《大国外交》英译版对"大同"的多种译法造成"大同"这一中国文化及理论话语元素在传播过程中的分散和稀释,弱化了"大同"的中国主体印迹;解说词、画面及背景音乐等多模态的相互补充说明、辅助增强作用有待增加。提出用"great harmony"统一翻译"大同",以解释性文字及其他模态辅助表达,力求在译制版多模态语篇中使"大同"这一表述得到高效、准确的对外传播。
        As China promotes "four matters of confidence" and seeks to spread its culture and theories to the outside world, the translation of "datong", an important element in China′s cultural and theoretical discourse in the English version of the documentary "China′s Major-Country Diplomacy" is analyzed from the cultural, contextual, content and expression dimensions within the framework of multimodal discourse analysis. It is found that being translated into different ways results in the dispersion and dilution of this important concept,and the commentary, picture and background sound of the documentary fail to achieve more desirable mutual explanation and auxiliary enhancement effect in presenting "datong" to target audiences. Based on these findings, it is suggested that "datong" be consistently translated to "great harmony", assisted with explanatory words and other modalities in the aim of effectively and accurately spreading "datong" philosophy through English versions of multimodal discourses.
