In order to optimize the shape of spillway tunnel in a reservoir project, the model of spillway tunnel is tested and the results show that the original design scheme of spillway tunnel produces flow around the inlet pier, especially at the right pier head, which results in uneven inflow. The large shrinkage angle and steep slope of the transition section at the entrance of the spillway tunnel lead to a left-right swing shock wave in the tunnel. The water surface in the tunnel not only fluctuates along the longitudinal direction, but also locally backs up the water depth on the cross section. By optimizing the shape of the spillway tunnel in the original design scheme, the height of the water wing and the fluctuation of the water surface in the spillway tunnel are obviously reduced, and the flow pattern is obviously improved.
