Experience sampling methodology is a dynamic research method characterized by high ecological validity, short-term high-frequency observation and effective immediate reaction capture. In recent years, this method has gained more and more attention and become more and more popular in organizational behavior and human resource management research. This paper pays attention to the advantages and contributions of this method and analyzes the 125 empirical papers published in five top-tier English journals and 8 empirical papers published in Chinese core journals between 1993 and 2018. Basing on that, this paper discusses the topics in organizational behavior and human resource management research suitable for applying experience sampling methodology and the theories matching the method. Meanwhile, this paper also discusses some limitations of experience sampling methodology and the research topics that are more suitable for applying traditional longitudinal research methods. At the end of the paper, some methods helping the data collection, potential combinations of experience sampling methodology with traditional research methods and future research topics are proposed.
