Don De Lillo's have been showing a great concern about environmental problems in his novels, among which Cosmopolis is a typical one that draws our attention on spiritual ecological crisis in postmodern society. With a similar narrative structure to Ulysses, this book tells us Eric's experiences on his way to a barbershop through the whole city in his limousine for curing his insomnia. This experience, which is very much like a mental trip from Eric's psychic instability to return, reveals both Eric's spiritual obsession and recovery. From this De Lillo's ecological thoughts that spiritual crisis is rooted in the development of the modern industrial civilization and hierarchic domination. Only if we can slow down the economic development and show our respect to the intrinsic value of all the living things in the nature, a harmonious relationship between the nature and our human beings will be established.
