韦卓民高等教育思想及其现代启示

摘要
韦卓民先生作为华中大学的首任华人校长,长期的教育实践帮助他形成了独特的高等教育思想。在治校宗旨观上,他要求华中大学保持基督教精神的同时,为国家培养优秀人才;在治校原则观上,他一直秉持着"重质不重量"的原则,开办了"少而精"的课程体系;他在强调"教学与科研紧密结合"的同时,着力提高师资队伍质量和教学管理水平,最终形成了华中大学独一无二的办学风格。韦卓民的这些高等教育思想和办学实践对我国当前高等教育改革和发展仍有重要的启示。
As the first Chinese president of Huachung University,Wei Zhuomin's long-term educational practice helped him form a unique higher education ideology. In the concept of managing the school,he hoped that Huachung University could maintain the Christian spirit while cultivating outstanding talents for the country. In the principle of governance,he adhered to the principle of "quality,instead of quantity"and thus started a small but refined curriculum system. While emphasizing the importance of academic and scientific research,he focused on improving the quality of teaching staff and the level of teaching management. Finally he formed the unique style of running a college. Wei Zhuomin's thoughts on higher education and the practice of running a college still have important implications for China's current reform and development of higher education.
