In his fiction,Kazuo Ishiguro portrays a series of orphans. Some of them fall into orphanage due to the war or parental death, and others will themselves to be"exilic"orphans. These orphans are a metaphor of the inevitable experience in individual growth, that is,everyone needs to face the world as an orphan. At the same time the orphan image embodies the theme of diaspora in the context of contemporary multiculturalism and globalization. Ishigurian orphans thus acquire the cultural import of postcolonialism and postmodernism.
