摘要
特里·麦克米伦的小说《单身女人》以细腻的笔触描绘了四位黑人女性不同的爱情、婚姻际遇,是20世纪90年代美国社会最畅销的小说之一。作品塑造了个性鲜明、爱憎分明的典型性女性,而且通过人物故事点明了美国社会所存在的各类问题。本文通过对人物经历的分析,逐次阐释了这些问题和症结,使读者深入地透过文学作品目睹美国社会的弊端。
Waiting to Exhale, written by Terry McMillan, depicts four black women's love affair and marriage life with careful touch. This works became one of the best-sellers in America in the 1990 s. Not only are the four typical women with striking characters and identified feelings to love and hate carved, but also various American social problems are exposed through the four women's love stories. The paper dedicates to explain these social problems through the analysis of the protagonists' personal experiences and introduce readers to view further American social ugliness.
