The process of world economic integration has promoted the profound evolution of global industrial division, structure of trade and resource allocation, resulting in the re-integration of ecological factors such as natural resources in the global scope. Our work systematically reviews the development of GVC theory, whose description of trade division has turned from single dimension to composite dimension, and summarizes the analytical framework, which has evolved from gross value form to value-added form, with continuous breakthroughs in decomposition. Accordingly, the empirical studies, ecological factor accounting in particular, delve into every dimension and pay extensive attention to various accounting objects, providing comprehensive suggestions on policies about energy saving and emission reduction, and national security, etc. The future development of industrial division and ecological factor accounting may be oriented toward refined classification, combination of macroscopic and microscopic dimensions, cross-border synthesis, etc.
