Calcium,an element with important function closely related to it's speciation,is widespread in nature,therefore,calcium-selective electrodes has important application in clinical chemistry, physiology, medicine, and seawater. In this paper,we proposed the conventional and new polymeric membrane calcium-selective electrodes for the detection of the activity and total concentration of calcium respectively.Compared with the conventional electrode, the new Polymeric membrane calcium-selective electrode, with the inner solution of 10-3 M CaCl_2,5 × 10-2 M Na2 EDTA adjusted to pH=9.0 with Na OH exhibits an apparently super-Nernstian response at low sample activities of 10-6-10-5 M Ca~(2+).During the range of super-Nernstian response, when the chelator EDTA added to the sample, the calcium buffered sample solutions with varying total concentration but the same activity of calcium result in an increased Electromotive Forces, which depends on the total concentration of calcium and can be used as a calibration curve for the total concentration determinations. Therefore, polymeric membrane ion selective electrode has the potential to achieve the speciation analysis.
