Gemini surfactants are constructed by two hydrophobic chains and two polar/ionic head groups covalently connected by a spacer group at the level of the head groups.Their strong self-aggregation ability can be applied to effectively influence the aggregation behavior of the complex systems based on gemini surfactants with polymer, biomolecules and small organic molecules. The unusual efficiency and versatility of gemini surfactants offer the possibility of developing the more efficient and functional gemini surfactant complex system with the less surfactant consumption and pollution. It is therefore important to systematically characterize the interactions between gemini surfactants and other complex molecules, which can offer effective guidance to design the gemini surfactant complex systems with desired properties and functionality using such highly efficient surfactants.
