Flanker任务中的朝向偏好效应

Flanker任务,又称侧抑制任务,是研究认知冲突效应的经典实验范式。前人对于Flanker任务的研究主要集中于基于试次序列的冲突适应效应,即不一致试次之后的冲突效应显著地小于一致试次后的冲突效应。很少有研究关注Flanker任务中刺激本身特征(如朝向)对于个体认知冲突成绩的影响。Flanker任务中,两侧分心刺激会对被试判断中心靶刺激造成干扰,这种干扰称之为Flanker效应。基于此,本研究假定任务中刺激特征会影响个体的认知冲突成绩。为验证这一假设,本研究采用经典的箭头Flanker任务,探索靶刺激朝向、靶刺激与分心刺激朝向一致性对个体认知冲突成绩的影响。招募西南大学44名在校学生(男生7人,女生37人;平均年龄22.04岁(SD=1.256),范围19-25岁)为被试进行单独实验。对实验数据进行多次重复测量方差分析与简单效应分析,结果表明:(1)靶刺激与分心刺激朝向一致时,其认知冲突适应成绩显著好于二者朝向不一致时(F(1,43)=505.250,p<0.001),Flanker效应显著;(2)靶刺激朝右时,其认知冲突适应成绩显著好于朝左时(F(1,43)=19.515,p<0.001),;(3)四种条件下被试的认知冲突成绩均具有显著差异(p<0.001),表现为RT(rrrrr)显著优于RT(lllll)显著优于RT(llrll)显著优于RT(rrlrr)。本研究发现Flanker任务中存在朝向偏好效应:当靶刺激为朝右的箭头时,反应时显著更快。进一步的研究将探索这种朝向偏好是否在垂直方向也存在,及其相关的脑机制。
Flanker task, also called lateral inhibition task, is a classical paradigm used for study on cognitive conflict effect. Prior researches on Flanker task mainly focused on task(trial) sequence-based conflict adaption effect, that is, conflict effect after inconsistent trial is significantly smaller than consistent trial. However, few of them paid attention to how stimulus features(eg. orientation) influence individuals` cognitive conflict performance. Flanker effect, refers to that the discrimination of target stimulus is impaired by the distraction stimulus. According to these, researches assume that stimulus features may affect individuals` performance in cognitive conflict task. To test it, this study explores the effects of target stimulus orientation, and consistency on orientation between target and distraction stimulus on individuals` cognitive conflict performance through an arrow Flanker task. 44 students from Southwest University participated in the experiment(37 females, range from 19 to 25year-old, mean=22.04, SD=1.256). Repeated ANOVA and simple effect analysis on the RTs data show that:(1) when orientation of target and distraction stimulus is consistent, performance is significantly better than inconsistent condition(F(1,43)=505.250, p<.001), refers to a Flanker effect;(2) when target stimulus is right-oriented, performance is significantly better than left-oriented(F(1,43)=19.515, p<.001);(3) performances on the four different conditions are significantly differentiated to each other, RT(rrrrr)< RT(lllll)< RT(llrll)< RT(rrlrr).The present study have found a orientation preference effect in Flanker, that is, right-oriented stimuli induce a significant fast response than left-oriented stimuli. Further researches will conducted on exploring whether this orientation preference exist vertical direction, and the underlying brain mechanism. These results demonstrate that target stimulus orientation, disturbing stimulus orientation, and consistency on orientation between target and disturbing stimulus have important influences on individuals` cognitive conflict adaption performance, which indicate that stimulus features may play a unique role on CAE.
