Efficiency enhancement of Polymer solar cells by adding Bilayer Alq3/CaF2 Cathode Buffer Layers

In the polymer solar cells(PSCs), the photocurrent lies not only on the optical characteristics of organic active layer materials and the ability of electrode to extraction/collection the charge, but also on the properties of the organic active layer/electrode interface.Buffer layer can play a good role in the modification between active layer and electrode.Therefore, we introduce of bilayer Alq_3/CaF_2 cathode buffer layers for PCDTBT and PC_(71)BM-based PSCs.We investigate the properties of devices with CaF_2 cathode buffer layer and Alq_3/CaF_2 cathode bilayer buffer layer which were inserted between the active layer and cathode, and it is found that the power conversion efficiencies of devices with Alq_3/CaF_2 bilayer structure exhibits a V_(OC) of 0.90 V, a J_(SC) of 12.77mA/cm~2, a FF of 65.50% and a best PCE of 7.48%.Alq_3 is an organic small molecule material as an electron extraction layer.CaF_2 can form a better interface contact by reducing series resistance(Rs) of PSCs.The enhancement of PCE is attributed to Alq_3/CaF_2 cathode buffer layer improve the generation of photocurrent and interfacial contact for efficient charge transfer.
