La_2(IO_3)(IO_4):A Novel Lanthanum Iodate with Layered Structure and Visible-Light Driven Photocatalysis Property

A novel lanthanum iodate La2(IO3)(IO4) was synthesized by a hydrothermal method.It crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca with a = 7.443(0) ?,b = 13.916(3) ?,c = 22.079(4) ?,and Z = 8.Sharing a similar chemical formula with Bi2(IO3)(IO4)[1],La2(IO3)(IO4),however,exhibits a layered structure instead of a three-dimensional one:with La O9 and La O10 polyhedrons connect each other by co-sharing O atoms at ab plane and further stacks along the c-axis,this title compound is analogous to Y(IO3)3[2] and Ag IO3[3] structurally.According to UV-vis-NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy,the optical band gap was determined as 2.33 e V,which is the narrowest among all the iodates reported before.The photocatalytic behavior of La2I4O13 was also investigated by decomposing Rhodamine B under visible light.Interestingly,La2(IO3)(IO4)displays the highest visible-light driven photocatalytic activity among iodates.
