运用眼动技术探讨中文阅读

近年来,关于中文阅读认知过程的眼动研究出现了大幅度增长。出现这一情况的原因有很多,其中最重要的原因是,中文书写系统与拼音文字书写系统(如英文)存在显著的差别,因而受到了广泛关注。尽管,中文阅读与拼音文字阅读的某些方面存在相似之处,然而中文书面语言的很多重要特性(如中文是基于汉字的、无空格文本,词与词之间的边界模糊)引发了不同于拼音文字阅读的理论问题。基于此,语言加工的特殊性与普遍性问题得到了关注。在该报告中,我将简要地概括我与我的同事所开展的中文阅读研究,包括中文阅读过程中的词切分、中央凹与副中央凹加工和眼跳定位等。我还将介绍一项关于三种不同语言(汉语、芬兰语和英语)的跨语言阅读研究。这些结果表明了不同语言在正字法加工过程中,从视觉到语言加工系统之间的信息交换速率从根本上影响着阅读中基本的眼球运动控制。
In recent years there has been a substantial increase in the amount of eye movement research conducted to investigate the cognitive processes that underlie Chinese reading. There are a number of reasons for this, but one of the most important is that the written form of the Chinese language is markedly different from alphabetic languages(like English) that have received the majority of attention in the past. Whilst some aspects of Chinese reading are similar to aspects of alphabetic reading, there are particular characteristics of written Chinese(e.g., that it is unspaced and character based, and that there is increased ambiguity regarding which characters form words) that raise theoretical questions not germane to alphabetic reading. In this context, issues of language specificity and universality of process come to the fore. In this talk, I will provide a brief review of some of the research that my colleagues and I have carried out to investigate Chinese reading. Some of the topics I will consider include word segmentation, foveal and parafoveal processing, and saccadic targeting in Chinese reading. I will also discuss findings from a cross-linguistic investigation of reading in three quite different languages(Chinese, Finnish and English), arguing that the results demonstrate that the rate information is exchanged between the visual and linguistic processing systems during orthographic processing in each language fundamentally affects basic oculomotor control during reading.
