Avian toxicity is an important aspect of environmental toxicology testing, and has increasingly become a topic of research interest in China. Currently, acute avian toxicity is one of the tests required for pesticide registration in China. Flumorph (SYP-190), a new fluorine-containing fungicide, was developed by the Shenyang Research Institute of Chemical Industry which retains proprietary rights to the compound. Our objective was to establish a set of avian long-term toxicity experiments and to conduct in-depth research on flumorph toxicity. An acute oral LD50 test and a 42-day subacute oral toxicity test were conducted with Japanese quail using direct placement of flumorph into the stomach, to obtain a preliminary assessment of acute and subacute toxicity. Similarly, a 5-day dietary LC50 test and a 90-day subchronic dietary test were conducted with Japanese quail, to determine subacute and subchronic dietary toxicity. The liver was found to be the target organ of flumorph in Japanese quail; in the subacute test, the high rate of flumorph significantly decreased survival, body weight, and food consumption compared to the control group, CHE activity increased as the doses rised, and liver cells showed fatty degeneration; in the subchronic test, flumorph at the high rate did not significantly affect body weight or food consumption, but significantly affect laying rate, and CHE activity significantly increased as the doses rised, and liver cells differently showed fatty degeneration in the middle ,high rate of flumorph , NOEC of flumorph in feed was 250mg/kg.
