China's reform and opening-up has set higher demand for foreign language learning and teaching. How to stimulate students' motivation in foreign language learning has thus become a hot issue. Some serious problems in the secondary vocational school in China, however, have produced negative effects on students' foreign language learning motivation. Starting with the theories on motivation, especially on foreign language learning motivation, this thesis attempts to detect the factors that may have negative effects on students' foreign language learning motivation in the secondary vocational school by means of investigation, analysis and discussion, and then suggests the solutions.
The thesis consists of four parts: an introduction and three chapters. The first part gives a brief introduction of some related theories and studies in the field of motivation, with priority given to motivation in learning, and special attention is attached to the discussion of foreign language learning motivation. The second part describes the investigation (including the purpose, background, participants, method and procedure) made by the

author. The third part goes on to analyze and discuss the results of the investigation, and solutions on the three levels of foreign language learning motivation (namely the Language Level, the Learner Level, and the Learning Situation Level) are suggested. In the fourth part, a conclusion of the thesis is made.
While the investigation is mainly designed for the secondary vocational school, and the solutions are also provided in response to the problems in such schools, the author expects that the results of the investigation and the solutions suggested can also be of some help to English teaching and learning in the common senior middle school.
