Displacement Field of Limestone Using Video Images from Laboratory Tests

According to the colorful video images and experimental data from the laboratory uniaxial compression test of limestone, the displacement field was obtained in this paper. Using the digital image correlation (DIC) technique, the colorful video images were converted first into a readable format of frames, and then into the gray-scale images. A Fourier transformation and the small deformation assumption were used to match characteristics of different points in a limestone specimen. Thereafter the displacement field was obtained by cycling in the global regions of the specimen. The techniques proposed herein may provide valuable information in investigating the deformation and/or failure mechanism of rocks.
