This paper, taking an example from the iron ore deposit cluster in Huoqiu County, Anhui Province, assessed surface water quality in the vicinity of a mine using fuzzy hierarchical comprehensive evaluation method and improved hierarchical analysis method as well as analyzing the measurement results of water quality index of samples collected from the Yangang River and its tributaries. The result indicates that water quality of each monitoring section is up to water standard I, implying that mine drainage has not yet created negative influence on neighboring surface water environment.
