Jinsha River downstream is one of the fragile ecological environmental areas along the Changjiang River and is also the biggest sand production area. In order to understand the ecological environment exactly in Jinsha River downstream, the authors adopt some technologies to develop the remote sensing monitoring, such as "3S" technology which including remote sensing (RS), geographic information system (GIS) and global position system (GPS), orthophotography rectification, data fusion, image information extraction, etc. . On this basis, the ecological environment GIS is constructed completely. It provides a basis for making decision about ecological environment construction planning.
