The two methods are introduced in detail in this paper. Thermodynamic principle is employed to quantitatively reconstruct the palaeoaltitude of the Middle Miocene Shanwang of Shandong ype>ype w:st="on">Provinceype>ype>, Eastern China. The palaeoaltitude turns out to be 400yle="FONT-FAMILY: 宋体; FONT-SIZE: 16pt; mso-font-kerning: 0pt; mso-ascii-font-family: ’Times New Roman’; mso-hansi-font-family: ’’Times New Roman’’">~yle="FONT-SIZE: 16pt; mso-font-kerning: 0pt" lang=EN-US>1 ype="1" ns1:Negative="False" ns1:HasSpace="True" ns1:SourceValue="0" ns1:UnitName="m">ype="1" Negative="False" HasSpace="True" SourceValue="0" UnitName="m">000 m, compared to its present day ype="1" ns1:Negative="False" ns1:HasSpace="True" ns1:SourceValue="250" ns1:UnitName="m">ype="1" Negative="False" HasSpace="True" SourceValue="250" UnitName="m">250 m, which agrees with the results from coexistence analysis in previous work and suggests a decline of elevation since the Middle Miocene in Shanwang. yle="FONT-SIZE: 12pt; mso-font-kerning: 0pt" lang=EN-US>
