A Primilinary Study on Bio-Oxidation of Sphalerite by Using Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans from the Acid Mine Drainage of Dabaoshan Mine, North Guangdong Province, China

详细信息
摘要
///A strain of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A.f.) isolated from the acid mine drainage (AMD) of Dabaoshan mine and a mineral sphalerite were used to study the bio-oxidation of sphalerite. Experiments were designed to compare the differences between abiotic oxidation and bio-oxidation of sphalerite in pH 2 and 3 and with or without Fe2+ conditions, respectively. The concentrations of cations and pH values during the experiments were measured. The solid experimental results were analyzed with XRD. The changes of sphalerite surfaces were investigated by using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that sphalerite was easier to be oxidized under the condition of pH 2 than pH 3 without the existence of iron ion. The bacterium A.f. promoted the oxidation of the sphalerite. The bio-oxidation rate of sphalerite is about 10-30 times of the abiotic oxidation rate. Iron ion promoted the bio-oxidation rate up to 300 times faster.
