Fast Simulation of Induction Logging Response by Finite Volume Method

Induction logging is an important means for quantitatively evaluating hydrocarbon bearing in sand and shale reservoirs, fast and accurate numerical simulation on induction logging response is important for data acquisition and formation interpretation. In order to overcome the disadvantages of finite element and finite difference simulation methods,we introduced Finite Volume Method (FVM) to calculate response of induction logging for the first time. FVM is easy to calculate response of indution logging in unstructured grid division which can fit the irregular shape of formation and obtain good simulation accuracy. The authors firstly discussed the basic idea of finite volume method in detail, and then gave a specific implementation to simulate response of induction logging. Finally, the developed FVM program analog was used to compute two models, and ideal simulation results were achieved.
