Preliminary Compositional Investigation of Binary Cu Sulfides from Zijinshan Au-Cu Deposit

In this paper, the chemical composition of some binary Cu sulfides from highly sulfidized epithermal Zijinshan Au-Cu deposit was investigated, and mineral phases in the ores were determined with electron microprobe analysis, X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy. Djurleite (Cu1.97S) and yarrowite (Cu1.25S) from this ore deposit were recognized for the first time. In addition to the replacement of digenite (Cu1.80S) by covellite (Cu1.01S), some covellite was replaced by digenite and anilite (Cu1.75S). These phenomena imply that these Cu sulfides were formed contemporarily from the same hydrothermal solution. The formation of these minerals resulted from the alteration of the earlier primary sulfides by Cu-rich hydrothermal solutions.
