Metasurface pixels comprised of plasmonic film-coupled silver nanocubes are fabricated using a fusion of bottom-up assembly and top-down lithography by M. H. Mikkelsen and co-workers, as described in article 1602971. Each pixel contains nanocubes with three different sizes corresponding to red, green and blue. By varying the fill-fraction of nanocubes, an image reconstruction with ≈10,000 color combinations is demonstrated.
