Phase equilibria at 1473 K in the ternary Al-Cr-Ti system

The isothermal section at 1473 K of the Al-Cr-Ti system was experimentally studied in the compositional region below 75 at. % Al using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, electron probe micro-analysis and electron backscatter diffraction. The formation of the continuous ¦Â phase solid solution was confirmed, three tie-triangles ¦Ó + ¦Å-TiAl3 + ¦Æ-Ti2Al5, ¦Ó + ¦Ã-TiAl + ¦Â and ¦Ó + ¦Â + (Al8Cr5)h were determined, and several tie-lines were measured. The homogeneity ranges of the ¦Ó, ¦Ã-TiAl and (Al8Cr5)h phases and the ternary extension of the C14 Laves phase (¦Ã-Ti(Al,Cr)2) into the Al-Cr-Ti system were also investigated.
