GLI1+ capsule cells give rise to GDX-induced neoplasms and to patches of spontaneous subcapsular cell hyperplasia. The R26R-confetti reporter is useful for tracking cell fate in the adrenal cortex. PDGFRα is a novel marker of GDX-induced adrenocortical neoplasia. GANT61, an antagonist of GLI1/2, inhibits the GDX-induced expression of gonadal-like markers in the adrenal.
