A method to analyze at a few parts-per-trillion levels harmala alkaloids is described. The method is based on on-line SPE-CE-MS using a C18 sorbent. Optimization and validation with standards followed by application to wakame extracts. Harmane was detected in the algae extracts at 70 pg mL−1 (70 ng kg−1 dry algae).
