rTcAANAT1 protein acts on a wide range of substrates such as dopamine, norepinephrine, tryptamine, tyramine and octopamine. The Km values of rTcAANAT1 for monoamine substrates are similar except for a lower affinity for tyramine. High transcript levels of TcAANAT1 are detected right after pupation and right before adult eclosion. RNAi-based functional study reveals that TcAANAT1 gene is required for morphology and pigmentation of adult cuticle.
