The individual behavioral type is expected to rely on strong underlying physiological and hormonal basis. Hormonal compatibility may reflect the pair-bond quality. Behaviorally assortative and disassortative pairs of convict cichlids were tested. Hormonal levels were not related to the individual behavioral type. Hormonal flexibility in response to pairing affected reproductive success.
