Periodic solidification and melting around a horizontal tube is studied numerically. The impact of the Rayleigh and Stefan numbers and of the period are studied. A scale analysis predicts adequately the main behavior of the system. The extent of the solid and liquid zones is reported, with the FFT of the temperature. Correlations can provide these features as a function of the governing parameters.
