A major challenge remains in preparing superhydrophobic textiles that withstand the impact of high hydrostatic pressure. In this report, textiles were coated with PDMS/SiO2 mixture to obtain water pressure resistant property. Then the coated textiles were further hydrophobized with tetraethoxysilane and cetyltrimethoxysilane by an in situ Stöber reaction. The as-obtained textiles exhibited a static water contact angle of 162.5° with a sliding angle < 10°. Importantly, the superhydrophobic textiles presented high resistance to hydrostatic pressure up to 38.6 kPa, which means water droplets tend to bounce instead of wetting the treated surface or penetrating through the substrates. The obtained superhydrophobic textiles with high water pressure resistance are promising for a number of potential applications, such as outdoor never wet tents.
