Finite element formulation for dynamic characteristics of cracked FG shafts is developed.

Modified stiffness of cracked FG shaft as a function of gradation index and temperature is computed.

Whirl frequencies and critical speeds of a rotor-bearing system with a cracked FG shaft depend on power law gradient.

In an FG shaft, power law gradient could be decided to achieve the desired dynamic characteristics.
