Free and forced vibration characteristics of submerged finite elliptic cylindrical shell

An analytical method to study the free and forced vibration behaviors of a submerged finite elliptic cylindrical shell is presented. The partial differential equations with variable coefficients are converted into a set of linear equations which couple with each other about the circumferential modal parameters. The symmetrical and antisymmetrical mode frequencies and shapes of elliptic cylindrical shells are different and the difference increases with the increase of ellipticity. The exciting force's position, the ellipticity, the shell thickness and length have obvious influence on the vibration and input power flow characteristics of elliptic cylindrical shell.
