Fe3O4 NSs/rGO was synthesized with well-dispersed and dense coverage of Fe3O4 NSs.

Fe3O4 NSs/rGO showed higher activity compared with Fe3O4 MSs/rGO and Fe3O4 NPs/rGO.

Sensitive colorimetric detection of ACh was achieved based on Fe3O4 NSs/rGO.

The presented colorimetric platform has the merits of simple, rapid, and low-cost.
