3D fractal analysis was performed on MRI images of patients with Chiari Malformation and healthy controls.

Before the segmentation and fractal calculations median and bilateral filtering were performed.

Difference between the results after a prior median filter application was slightly significant.

Highly significant difference between the results was found after a prior bilateral filtering application.

Results showed that preprocessing of MRI data before the segmentation and analysis is critical.
