A new bench model of neonatal CPAP simulates oropharyngeal gas conditions. A heated humidifier was inserted between an active model lung and the oropharynx. We studied the impacts of mouth opening and CPAP circuit gas conditioning. Mouth opening impaired oropharyngeal gas conditions in all tested scenarios. The model can assess the efficacy of heated humidification in the presence of leaks.
