Evaluation of thiacloprid and clothianidin (neonicotinoids) as alternative to fenthion (organophosphate) for control of Mediterranean fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae) in deciduous fruit orchards
We tested effectiveness of the neonicotinoids clothianidin and thiacloprid against Medfly.
•
Both caused 100% adult mortality within 48 h after direct application.
•
Efficacy of both neonicotinoids against adult declined with increasing residue age.
•
Both neonicotinoids showed efficacy on the immature stages (egg, larvae) and caused adult deformation.
•
Clothianidin appeared more effective than thiacloprid in controlling medfly.
