A modified co-electrodeposition method is used to develop novel cermet coatings.

Two types of nano-sized particles (WC and Al2O3) were incorporated in the nickel matrix.

Microhardness and sliding wear performance of the coatings were investigated.

Wear performance of coatings composed of only WC was improved by introducing Al2O3 into the matrix.

Archard equation and rule of mixture for coatings provided probable explanation for wear performance.
