Genetically determined pituitary adenomas represent a small (5%) but clinically important group of tumors. Genetically related pituitary tumors can present in an isolated or syndromic manner. Mutations in the MEN1, AIP, PRKAR1A, CDKN1B, GNAS and SDHx genes can cause pituitary tumors. X-linked acrogigantism (X-LAG) syndrome due to duplications involving GPR101 can be sporadic, mosaic or inherited.
