•: A potentiometric biosensor is developed for direct serological diagnosis of Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD).
•: The sensor is based on extended-gate field-effect transistors.
•: A major pathogen of BRD, Bovine Herpes Virus-1 (BHV-1), is used as a model system.
•: The sensor performance is equivalent to Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and ELISA.
•: The FET sensor is significantly faster than ELISA (<10 min).
