Excitation wavelength-dependent emission characteristics of Eu3+ in Ba2Mg(BO3)2.
•
Equally intense magnetic and electric dipole transitions under long wavelength excitations.
•
Predominant magnetic dipole transition when excited using Eu3+–O2− charge transfer energy.
•
Atomic reorganization in the excited state changes the local site symmetry as evidenced by Eu3+ luminescent probe.
•
Eu3+ site symmetry changes from non-inversion to inversion symmetry in Ba2Mg(BO3)2.
