Ultrasonic irradiation was introduced to control protein fouling. Influence of ultrasonic irradiation on protein fouling was investigated. Calcium ion aggravated membrane fouling and induced a fouling layer formation. Ultrasonic irradiation can mitigate protein fouling during membrane distillation.
