Prevalence of stereotypies and its possible causes among captive Asian elephants (Elephas maximus) in Tamil Nadu, India
文摘

Stereotype is an indication of welfare problem among captive animals.

We assessed stereotypies among captive Asian elephants under three systems in India.

Temple and Private elephants showed higher prevalence than those in Forest Department.

Prevalence decreased with age and increase in juvenile class access to conspecific.

Stereotypic intensity decreased with age but increased with resting and daily rituals.
