The prehospital management of pediatric trauma patients requires unique knowledge and skills. Pediatric patients are not “little adults.” The head-injured, hypotensive pediatric patient is particularly challenging. That the flight crew be well-versed in the assessment and treatment options for this patient population is imperative. The functional outcome for these patients often depends on the early interventions provided in the field. The best way to reduce the level of anxiety experienced in dealing with pediatric patients is to increase the flight crew's knowledge level.
