Mupirocin (MUP) and chlorhexidine (CHX) are widely used to eradicate MRSA carriage.
•
MUP resistance was identified in 15.6% of blood isolates and 15.1% of nasal isolates.
•
Presence of the mupA gene was confirmed in all high-level mupirocin-resistant (HLMR) isolates.
•
One MRSA isolate (0.7%) was resistant to CHX by broth microdilution.
•
qacA/B and qacC genes were detected in 2.2% and 8.2% of MRSA isolates, respectively.
